Sufi singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s worst nightmare seems to be over. After all the airport drama, the Pakistani national and his manager Maroof can soon fly back to their motherland. The duo were arrested from the Delhi airport for holding foreign currency worth $ 124,000.

The duo were then produced at the Patiala House court where they were asked to pay Rs 15 Lakh each as fine. Both Rahat and Maroof have paid the fine to the customs. It is expected that they will get their passports back by today, although there is no official word on it yet.

Once that happens, Rahat will fly back to Pakistan. Rahat, along with Maroof and his event manager Chitresh Srivastava were caught at the Indira Gandhi Airport on February 13 for carrying undeclared foreign currency. Rahat was about to board a Dubai based flight, but the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI)
received a tip-off that help them arrest at the right time. Rahat claimed that he is a school drop-out and does not know anything about Indian custom laws.

Individuals are supposed to declare any amount exceeding $10,000 to the customs. Rahat is also upset for having let down his fans in India. Meanwhile, the Pakistani government, media and citizens have cried foul in Rahat’s arrest.

But for Rahat can, at least for the time being, heave a sigh of relief, and go back to his nation once he gets back his passport. But the question is what next? Will Rahat have apprehensions coming back to India?
